Heads up - this is gonna be long, since I’m doing my best to find and summarize every post making a serious case on me. I’m not sure if I’m gonna quote them*, but I’ll do my best to represent the cases they make fairly.
*mobile is rough for me to write long posts like this - full disclosure: I’m typing this up separately on a my school laptop, then copying it over onto a tablet to actually post it on
There are two main arguments for scum!squirrel that I’ve seen so far:
Me or Kaylee = scum
There are two main arguments here, summarized best by 528 and 1251respectively - one is that the push on EK was scummy, the other involves the nightkill.
Pushing EK:
528 - EK: I’m coaching and/or manipulating kaylee into voting him
- At the time, I was simply asking kaylee’s opinion about a conversation I found scummy. It’s flawed to think that I’m coaching her just because she agreed with me.
544 - EK: I’m pushing EK in a way that tries to avoid responsibility for pushing him - I think I was pretty proactive in standing up for my push; I tried to get other people involved in it, of course, but that’s not unreasonable
Nightkill:
1251 - EK: EK wasn’t killed by scum because he threatened me and kaylee, so they left him alive in fear of vengeful getting, well, revenge
The main objections I have to this are:
- This assumes they thought EK could kill (if they didn’t, why would they be afraid of him getting revenge?)
- This assumes they weren’t trying to avoid doc/jailkeeper/watcher (otherwise, they would try to dodge EK, who has a high chance of being protected)
- Do I think that we can assume the opposites of these (e.g. that they thought EK couldn’t kill)? No! I think we can’t assume either way, and thus it’s WIFOM.
I think the reason that they didn’t go for a free kill on EK is because it could easily not be free. There’s no guarantee Doc/JK/Watcher aren’t on EK, and he’d be the most valuable target (if actually town)
- And, for the record, protectives should always be on the person they think is most valuable early game imo; the chance of correctly guessing the kill is low, and the penalty for failing to protect PRs is pretty high
There’s also the possibility EK was scum, though I personally dislike that theory (see my iso on EK for more detail).
Defensiveness
I’m running out of time to actually find the good posts that summarize this argument, but suffice it to say that I’ve been “uncharacteristically defensive”
Examples (yes, I’m aware there’s more):
1621
1703
This one is hard to quantify - my guess is that what you’re saying is that I’m being harsher/snapping at my accusers more than usual.
This is a fair argument. I hadn’t really noticed it until you mentioned it, and there’s not much I can do to respond to it. The only things that I can argue in my defense is that it’s been a long time since I’ve played mafia, and will also point out that I have gotten heated in past games before as town. Also, to @Ari_2412: the onenote mafia games were over two years ago (and the most recent one we were scumpartners), so I’d be wary of trusting that read.
Miscellaneous
Not summoning discobot (1801) - Oh snap I’ve been exposed I can’t argue against this impeccable logic
