The way I understand it is if you’re not voting, your vote isn’t on mafia; if your vote isn’t on mafia, it’s an incorrect vote

Doesn’t matter - any vote not on mafia is an incorrect vote here, so any townie not voting mafia should be penalised for that (and tbh they definitely shouldn’t be able to slip out of being penalised for failing to vote mafia by chickening out and not voting at all).

If no one votes mafia town loses so who cares

If people are actively voting town then town loses faster
