if you town tell every game you roll town then your scum game gets harder. starv might have an easier time as scum because he sometimes doesn’t make himself readable when he rolls town.
its a strat that makes sense long-term but just on principle i won’t sacrifice an individual game to have some dubious advantage across games.
I think it’d be cool to find a playstyle without any significant tradeoffs where u have to be playing suboptimal as one alignment.
Interesting. But given the fact that people on average roll town 3x more often than they roll scum, it makes more sense to tank their scum games than town games.
also only needing 4 town in a 9p game is weird af to me. thought we’d need 5 at least.
I think its a function of how winnable the game seems yeah? so if a game is going bad for town I think starv is more likely to pump the gas a little bit.
This presumes that we lynch Scum D1. It was in that context that I described that.
Otherwise yeah you need 5.
doesn’t it work no matter what order we lynch them in as long as we get two scum in a pool of five yeah?
because if we lynch four then we are guaranteed to hit at least one scum if they are both in 5.
idk im confused.
Easier said than done. The whole goal of the game of mafia is to infiltrate the “town core”.
If we don’t lynch Scum before their second NK we lose. We drop to 4 players with 3 mislynches and 2 NK’s.
lemme do the math myself real quick.
This line of discussion might be enthralling but I promise you it is not productive and leads to overconfidence. We are just defining the terms of mafia. Mafia’s goal is to look town.
the idea is that looking towny is easier for townies than mafia yeah? so if you have a process of elimination you can put additional pressure on mafia to have to look even townier than the towniest townies.
The only reason I was walking through that was to try and understand the motivation behind a particular type of play under pressure.
There’s no pressure if we don’t get it right though haha so we better start there.
This is not necessarily true. Mafia have 1 job: to look town. Town have 2 jobs: to look town AND to catch mafia.
You’d think that having 1 job is easier than two.
Any other variation is a consequence of player skill level.
Anyway I seriously need to sleep now. I’ll check in the morning.
I suppose the bottom line is as you said earlier about my discussion about the ranking system.
“Catch the scum and the rest will sort itself out.”
