Matroskha 4: Over!

Yeah, you place yourself within the order - preferably not in the top two because thats kinda a cop out

There’s a theory in resistance that games are won by town more often when you don’t put yourself in the trusted group that applies to this. @Ellibereth can probably explain it better or provide the link, but the takeaway is to make a list without yourself in the top 2.

Andres
StarV
Nanook
Elwood
GTacc
Elli
AD

Of all the lists I’ve seen, that’s certainly one of them.

which end is which

Andres star town

vig nanook. then laugh

I’m not sure about this. If you take 5 player resistance as a case study, you starting as the leader (and town), you have a 50% chance of winning the game outright by putting yourself + town on the mission. 2 town 2 scum… If you get 2 town in the 2, it’s basically impossible to lose.

If your meta is to never put yourself on the mission, then you’re like at 16% to form an all town mission as town… You might be able to squeeze a higher win rate out if you’re good, but I don’t see how that doesn’t apply to the first situation as well…

I guess in person you can have a placebo that it “makes people easier to read”. But in person, there is so much more to read than the facts.

I think Nanook pushing Elli in is really bad as either alignment.

GTacc asking how to build his lineup is zzzzz people answering is worse.

I don’t have loads of time right now so I’ll respond to the most important thing here.

@StarV you’re falling for a normal GT trap. a collecton of local maxima doesn’t necessarily lead to the global maxima. it’s a “paradox” analogous to the more famous result that a collection of positive trends may end in a negative trend. Or if you consider sets of strategies as portfolios with risk/reward, how it turns out that the highest ev may not be correct in the spectra (google efficient frontier for this one).

the naive way to calculate would be to create a strategy space as town, a strategy space as mafia, and run a monte carlo. You’re looking for equilibria. (good place to start: https://github.com/leepike/theresistance)

Proving a strategy is optimal is a lot more involved (and people looking at balance in mafia as an ev calculation are also wrong but its also widely accepted because it easy and considered a “good enough” approximation a lot of the time). This is just a sample for mafia (https://arxiv.org/pdf/math/0609534.pdf)

Wut

I want to wait on a few other people’s lists before posting mine :trollparrot:
