The players themselves vote
If you want a more holistic selection process the jury selects a bunch of people too
I’m aware of the format. Players and jury with no clear rubric voting on who’s the “best player” when most people have no remote idea what that means is etc.etc.

It’s like you’re having PHD generals but after the whole thing you shuffle the professors out and invite a bunch of high schoolers in to say who passes or not.

Like even for something where goodness is concrete, like chess, you can see how wrong very qualified people misjudge skill when names/ratings are hidden.
We just remove both concrete and very qualified here.
