Okay, so I actually think that Ellibereth has done a rather poor job of explaining why censorship is required for this and not for other things.

In general, if someone is using offensive language, the correct way to deal with it is to simply correct them. The issue with lynch is that it is such a core function of the game of mafia, that it is used very frequently and it is used everywhere. Replacing the word to a synonym is trivial and doesn’t actually affect anyone’s enjoyment of the game.

The removal of the word is aimed at bringing more people to the site who would otherwise fit with the community, which I think we can all agree is a good thing…

“Slippery slope” arguments are terrible and should never be used in any circumstances. It’s basically how every privileged individual explains themselves when they fear losing their privilege, even if said privileges means others are at a disadvantage.

Also, censorship is not much different from an enjoyment perspective than constantly being reminded that you don’t share site values… I mean, eventually, if too many words are banned regardless by site censorship or crowd censorship, your enjoyment level is going to be equally low (for anyone making that argument).

I don’t think you have a solid grasp on what “privilege” is Mr. I have two Barbeques

Don’t forget the wifi-emitting chicken!

I mean recognizing something and having it aren’t mutually exclusive.

Freedom of speech isn’t a privilege Star

The 1st amendment only applies to government censorshipm

No ones taking anyone to court here lmao

Your comment made it appear that no one anywhere can ever censor anything because it’s a right.

A right isn’t necessarily a right only because the government says it’s a right btw

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences of that speech

I mean I heartily disagree with any assertment that freedom of speech is a privilege

Actually, if you look internationally, it is… And, if you look domestically at the actions taken by your president, it would appear that he would also have it that way.

Also, that whole thing he’s got going on with Twitter.

Not recognizing the privilege of being able to say whatever you want without or with minimal repercussions also happens to be a part of the package of the privileged class.
