Andres just making himself appear scummy

I don’t really like “m451 squad” sentiment because it makes other people feel like outsiders. I get that a bunch of you are original/long-time/core members but I don’t want that to be something you hold above new people (calling them randos etc.).

I still do need to distribute the alpha user flair don’t I.

Also we just came up with a system that kinda solves all this (r.e. people playing with people they don’t want to play with) that’s pretty elegant and extendable and we’re working on implementing it now.

Sorry about that, it’s just me. I love mafia 451 and everyone on it. Usually there’s a “but” but today there is no “but”.

I feel that people who join games just to flake are very irresponsible. At least inform the host early that they are no longer interested and need a replacement, that’s sad but not so bad.

I feel like I cannot trust people outside of people I know and people who are on m451 to not be irresponsible. Every time I host games I am optimistic but it will still turn out the same. They flake. In your words, they are >>>>rand to be less committed to the game. I hate that. I am sorry for voicing this out if it sounds unfriendly and exclusionist but this is a sentiment I do have and I think that we are loving and safe and caring enough that I can voice my opinion here and it is something I do believe right now, even if it is probably negative and not politically correct. And I think that being transparent and honest about thoughts is good for everyone moving forward to solve issues so I will leave this here and maybe we can do something to change this belief or stigma so that we make mafia great on this site.

The thing is, other than Geyde and Zz- no one is inactive. These people just aren’t high posters. As Mittens has said before, this is how Sock plays mafia. This is how J$ plays mafia. This is how Tier plays mafia (unfortunately he really does kinda slack when he doesn’t get a role he’s interested in).

People play mafia in different ways, and I was hoping that bringing a game that is more of the style that I am familiar with would show a different side of the game that people aren’t necessarily familiar with on this site.

It’s less mechanical and more gut, and sometimes guts can be all over the place.

Nah, I get how you feel. People you have no experience with are a big ? in terms of how committed they are and that sucks.

The first thing would be the set of people who want to play mafia but are just generally low commitment/low effort. Some people are okay with them, some people aren’t. The new system we’re coming up with will solve that in the sense that if you’re not okay with it you won’t be in the same game as each other anymore.

Next set are the people who flake/replace out. It’s super unlikely they come back then. It’s kinda unfortunate that one game gets ruined but that’s how the cookie crumbles.

The last set are the people that replace out a bunch and stick around and in for another game and then replace out, etc.etc. Any of you who’ve played on MU and especially MS know the subset of people that do this. The nature of our rules regarding replacements is in particular to make sure that this sort of behavior doesn’t happen.

This is kinda hilarious atm with Mittens being 3rd party survivor and actually not KNOWING who is town and who is scum.

He just told me in pms the team is either Rich and Josh or Andres and Sock. Lmfao

tldr;

  1. I don’t think anyone outside of people who just straight out flake “aren’t playing the game”. I’m not going to bear judgement on what’s good and bad play. I’d personally be fine with playing with most people here again (Tier probably needs a slower paced game though?) but I totally get if someone doesn’t want to play with someone. The reasoning doesn’t particularly matter.

  2. If user A doesn’t want to player with user B for whatever reason, we’re rolling out a system that deals with this nicely.

Hopefully it just doesn’t turn into a cliquey sort of thing whatever it is

I’ll make a real announcement on this stuff soonish but it can turn cliquey in the sense that:

  1. If someone hates playing with everyone they’re not going to get in many games.
  2. If everyone hates playing with someone they’re probably not going to get many games.

But I think both of these results are probably desirable for all parties so.

there will be a indicating if you want to play with someone again component but those values will only be visible to admins and will be kept private, and it’ll be fairly difficult to back-solve if someone really wants to put effort into it but I don’t think people really will.

Not a fan, but whatever

I fundamentally don’t think people should have to play with people they dislike playing with, just makes things unpleasant for both parties. :man_shrugging:

It makes sense to have some sort of system in place, but tbh, I think there will be challenges when the site already can’t really fill a larger set up.

Ranking people to me is just a really bad idea, but I’m not going to go back and forth with you on it as it is what it is and you’re gonna do what you’re gonna do.

Andres just eviscerated Mittens in thread holy shit lmfao

Yeah, Andres defeated and mittens wins if it’s anyone but him.

It won’t effect larger games at the start, rolled out experimentally with a few site run ones.

Eh, you’re not really ranking people. Just making a note of “I don’t like playing with them” or “I really like playing with them”. Maybe we’ll just do like neutral dislike to make it seem less ranky. You have to somehow express to the system that you don’t want/really want to play with someone again or it doesn’t really work.

I’m ranking everyone as a 1

And then what

People say they don’t like someone and when that person attempts to sign up for a game they are just… told no they can’t join?

How many mafia players do you think were picked last when playing kickball on the playground Elli?

Nah that’s not how it’ll work.
