because if i get ahead of nanook in rankings then u can feasibly argue that they aren’t indicative of skill whereas if nanook beats me then the ranked system may be incorrectly validated

it is the rating system that is wrong!
a more practical reason could be that town beating scum leads to town elo gains being weighted more strongly and you need multiple votes to feasibly lynch your second scum target
thus by sharing your reads you actually gain more elo
unless you think smooth brain sheeps can get it on our own
