I’ll be honest in that it was mostly EOD chaos and I was townreading Kim hard and all of a sudden she had these questions about comparing your reads on Eli and UFO and I was trying to get you to answer her. I didn’t necessarily see why she thought you were scum for that but wanted you two to work it out.
I think what makes mafia difficult is that it’s a lot easier for people to inadvertently weigh themselves towards the town side (partially because of unconscious winrate obsession) which makes the poe automatically narrower by default regardless of environment.
I’m curious to hear about your player archetypes.
Also a big motivation for writing analytics/some of the stuff we’re building is people tend to have a pretty bad intuition about how much better than they’re doing than chance, i.e. if you call someone town 20 times and you’re right 15 times and wrong 5…you’re doing about as good as random.
Eli what was your read on me? Kind of curious and I don’t remember you ever giving a wizard percent rate on me
none in the day, >>> rand town in the night post flip.
well none in the sense that there were no adjustments made based on you, just corresponding adjustments made based on movement for other people.
It’s something I use to save me time when I can’t full meta.
Basically I try to classify people by experience level/age/background/why they play mafia/what they value/etc. and see if there are any tells by group. Have not found a lot of super good stuff to be honest outside of sets of people that are relatively new, or sets of people that value particular things arguably more than just winning. (For example doggo/tn game choice stuff here).
I played for a long time on mafiascum and it was more helpful there since there were sets of very homogeneous people
Boomers scumread people who disrespect them or don’t engage with their set in stone frameworks
Theres my one age based tell
you know if I filled out a survey or something and left out my age a lot of people might guess boomer xD
Ok boomer
I get told off fairly regularly to get a working smartphone xD
Age is always an uncomfortable thing with new players. Obviously I’d read a 16 year old player much different than a 30 year old player, but it feels rude to ask somebody their age in the context of a game, even though the entire exercise of playing mafia is an implicit agreement to being judged by strangers on the internet.
You let them judge you but then get to scoff and think they’re dumb if they judge you wrong it’s a win win
My general rule for myself is that it’s fair game to independently try to dig up any info on the person, but I wouldn’t broadcast/talk about any of it publicly.
hey guys, sorry I’m late to the party.
So I know my early day 1 stuff might have been annoying, but I was trying to do two things.
- be anti-scum as opposed to pro-town; do stuff that no reasonable scum would do.
- pressure m2h right off the bat because his normal scum game is super sugary and sweet and he can act like a perfect towny.
sorry I didn’t lynch m2h with you, I just had a stronger scum read on ufo.
In retrospect, Kim being a vig makes a lot of sense now and sort of explains her slightly more reserved nature in most of day 1.
Anyway, sorry for being annoying, please forgive me. I’m glad that Elli and I were able to get along though, was nice to be able to defend his playstyle a bit and I’m glad he wasn’t mislynched day 1. But yeah, I mostly did nothing, thanks for carrying me, team
