Urist didn’t tell me he was town. Due to someone’s role, Urist is revealed to be town.
You could’ve won by a) not being a complete and utter dick to ffery, b) actually understanding how rules work, c) trying to solve the puzzle rather than putting your head in the sand and shouting “la la la I’m not listening,” and d) not being a complete and utter dick to ffery.
Like, okay, urist played well in the fact that he was actually trying to look town, and didn’t give any indication or red flag that he would be scum despite his technically not-clear fake “confirmed town” PM.
But I’d be damned if I didn’t say that 85% of the reason I didn’t bat an eyelid at him in lylo was because of that role
Like, it would take a really really red flag for me to suspect him there. Maybe drenched in 3 pools of concentrated blood aged for 300 years made from the animals of the stingray, snake, kangaroo, and goddamned Steve irwin. I hope you’re happy.
I generally don’t think semantics exercises are worth arguing.
The mechanic was reasonable -after thinking about it for a while-.
I think the issue here is that while it was fair game with the google doc, metal sonic didn’t expect a mechanic like that and it made the game unpleasant. Don’t necessarily think it’s a players fault for not reading the doc super rigorously pre-signup.
We’ll get the tagging system setup with definitions ASAP along with maybe recomended templates to make key elements of games more visibile on signup. That stuff being slow on me.
On a game related note - Urist you did a lovely job. Maybe I should have realized my confusion meant scum was the player here who I haven’t ever looked into before!
No. Being a dick to ffery or not is irrelevant to the problem here. There was no way I would not have voted ffery here because of that role. I’m sure katsuki and literally anybody else would have done the same.
Maybe I shouldn’t have been a dick to ffery if I knew she was town! But! I didn’t! guess it sucks to be town
I mean, there’s no reason to be a dick to her to that level even if she had been scum. And yeah, if you hadn’t stuck your head in the sand when she was talking about how Urist isn’t 100% confirmed as town, then maybe you two could’ve come together.
I’m not denying it’s a confusing role, but it’s not a game breaking one for a town that’s actually paying attention.
Thanks for making me feel even more regretful and guilty about being a dick to ffery than I already am, though! guess you got a great laugh out of that as well!
I wish muffin was in this game and in lylo instead of me. I’d love to see what happens too!
If you feel bad about being a dick, maybe the solution is to just not be a dick in the first place.
Guys go take a breather ~~~
Bottom line is: eagle role gave an unfair advantage to literally whomever held the role.
Can the game theoretically be solved? Yes. But should I have to play a level 999 logic puzzle when I signed up for an innocent animal game of mafia? Hell no
maybe you shouldn’t put a role in the game which makes the players behave like animals
Getting away and going to a concert in the park definitely improved my mood! So did the game ending!
So confirmed town lived to end game? Are we for sure they where confirmed town?
There was no factional kill, so Urist living to lylo wasn’t shocking.
Had no idea what the setup was and it wasn’t placed in an easily accessible/findable place so I just never bothered. The plurality rules being incredibly obscure and hidden made the game unfun as well.
Not sure why MS decided to go for me, I was leaning Urist the entire time over you two.
I wish you had posted something to that effect. I don’t think you ever mentioned Urist at all. It might have been that little jolt that set thoughts in motion.
>bastard role exists in game
>mod does not claim that there are bastard elements
I think the confusion and mismatch of expectations mostly comes down to site meta clashes.
When I first started playing mafia the only thing that the people I played with considered to be bastard were outright lies to a player about how their role worked. Like telling someone they are a roleblocker when they’re actually a doctor. (saw a traitor with this ability, and whoooo was she confused after a couple nights).
When I first started playing mafia at mafiascum and other sites with a more developed concept of what’s “bastard”, I was always thinking about scenarios that could be playing out that would NEVER happen in a normal game or a non-bastard theme game there. I think this is the main reason why I trust my reads over basically any sort of in-game info that gets revealed.
I’m still probably excessively flexible in my thinking about setups, and I ramp that level up when I know I’m playing games influenced by unfamiliar site meta.
But, that’s just me. I can understand metal sonic’s point of view.
I agree with Elli that we need to make it easier for mods to communicate their design philosophy to a much more variable audience because that’s what we are - a mafia community that is joining players and moderators from some very different site metas.
I did…when you asked, i said if not elli, urist. Few times in fact, see d2
