Chesskid IPick 2 - Medium Effort Version - Day 4

I’m not generally a troll you’re right about that.

Why aren’t we lynching obvScum here?

 You got me, I was trolling.

Points 1 and 2 make sense to me yeah, but like how do you work around point 3–you have to actually change your game right? Like I’m indecisive, extremely paranoid, and a tryhard which means to replicate my town game as scum I have to do an absurd amount of work because otherwise the disparities become too obvious. When I’m town that work feels natural and tbh I get a little bit jittery if I don’t do it if I’m actually invested in a game, but when I roll scum it’s like having to yank my fingernails off. Like you said me putting personality into my posts was what makes it easy to read me but then how do I not put my personality into it so much? That was partially the goal in this game by consciously trying to not give a shit.

Yet, you ended up giving many shits.

It’s easy to rope you in @M2H

Good luck finding this on 451 tho

These games exist on 451, just rare.

I’m not exactly sure what I can do about that though. I mean am I supposed to just not respond to people. Isn’t that sometimes more telling than saying something. I tend to view me having a thread presence as a good thing and thus it seems that in the process of posting a lot and talking to others I’m eventually going to get roped in to something :woman_shrugging:

Honestly M2 if you actually want to change your meta, just emotionally detach yourself from the game as both alignments and that will go a long way towards achieving your goal :woman_shrugging:

Or just accept that you can play an obv town game and struggle as scum, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, that’s true for most players.

It’s a bit counter intuitive, but having a thread presence is actually -ev in most cases (I think) because people will judge that they can read you, if they can’t it will lead you to getting lynched more and if they can, then you end up in the predicament that you’re in.

I’m not 100% sure how this translates to forum mafia, but there was a small study done on this for in person mafia. A lot of places don’t really lynch lurkers because anyone who has the mentality of “I want to find mafia” is going to lynch someone who has a presence because they can’t read the other players… The other thing is, anyone who doesn’t have a presence also want to lynch people who have a strong presence out of self-preservation.

This is actually demonstrated quite easily if you’ve ever played IRL mafia, generally if the game isn’t over by F3, it’s like the 3 quietest players left and it’s so excruciatingly bad.

Obviously, if you’re playing with players who have the mentality of “I want to find town” and lynch everyone else, thread presence is almost required.

Yeah, playing scum with a high thread presence in a game with people that are familiar with you is pretty much always going to take a ton of work. That’s just a fact :woman_shrugging:

@M2H

I think a better way to improve your mafia game is to identify the players who read you well and pick fights with them every game, that way the other players don’t know who to align with when you’re mafia .

If the player has the presence of mind to not engage you when you’re town, then you’re shit out of luck, but it’s worth a try.

A dissenter would, in most cases, reveal themselves too late in the process for you to do anything about it. That’s how they maximize leverage. The only reason I very quickly shot the whole thing down is just because I had a strong feeling M2H was Scum. That’s all.

This would improve games so much. It’s a shame we can’t get anywhere near this hahaha

ig I’ll just play normally after I get back from work

or if you want to send me money so I can leave /s

HAVENT READ SINCE THE FACT I GOT CHESS CHORES IS TURNING ME OFF :(((, POSSIBLY
